Kanya Stewart
Kanya Stewart is a strategic communications, digital strategy, and social impact consultant with more than 22 years of experience. Since 2019, she has served as Director of Communications for the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), where she has led marketing, promotions, and storytelling efforts for six record-breaking national conventions while significantly expanding the organization’s digital footprint and engagement. In this role, Stewart also oversees executive communications and public and external relations.

Prior to joining NABJ, Stewart served her alma mater, Florida A&M University (FAMU), in various communications capacities starting in 2012. Her roles included directing media relations, overseeing digital and social media strategy, serving as executive editor of the nationally recognized A&M Magazine, as well as crafting speeches, producing content, and consulting on thought leadership for the university president and senior leaders.

Other past roles include serving as the director of marketing for multi-million dollar firm LLT Building Corp., successfully expanding their client base and community presence; and serving as the executive editor and senior writer for the Capital Outlook, a then-leading publication of the Black Press, where she played an integral role in local, regional, and national coverage of the most important stories impacting citizens.

Through innovative leadership and a results-driven approach, Stewart has leveraged her award-winning strategies to help companies, nonprofits, and individuals worldwide elevate their brand voice, connect with audiences, and tell their stories in impactful ways.

She is a 2004 honors graduate of the FAMU School of Journalism & Graphic Communication with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and magazine production. Stewart most recently served as a 2024 member of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Digital Communications Cohort.
